Nvidia shadowplay Empty Nvidia shadowplay

Post by UP^StevieZombie 24th October 2013, 02:16

For all those folks who have a gtx 600 or 700 series card and like recording their gameplay footage, Nvidia Shadowplay beta is out on Monday.

http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/geforce-shadowplay-beta-available-october-28

The idea is that because it uses hardware encoding (H264) built into the keppler GPUs, the frame rate drop should be minimal (we'll see...). Also it saves the last 20 minutes of footage to a temporary file, in case you didn't press the record button.

Sounds promising and just in time for BF4...

What do you mean, Bor? Original version? Beta is also original version, or do you mean final version?

No harm in trying. If you have any problems or it doesn't work then you can turn it off or uninstall. I've got a gtx 760, so I will definitely be trying this. I lose anywhere between 10-25 fps using MSI afterburner, so any improvement on that will be welcome.

Yeah it was supposed to come out in June, I think. Hope it was worth the wait.

So this is like DXtory and Mirillis Action but from Nvidia? Didn't even know that was coming on Geforce Experience!
Definitely gonna try it out tonight!

I was using last night. Works really well, virtually no performance hit in any of the games I tried (including BF3). Quality of the recording is good and at a reasonable compression rate (I was using high quality setting). It seems to record at a variable framerate.

My only gripe is that only records output sound and not input sound - ie it records game sound and voices in Teamspeak, but not myself talking into microphone (so you end up with only half a conversation). But maybe they will add this in later.

Pretty much, but using hardware encoding built into to the 600 and 700 series cards, so virtually no frame rate hit.

I don't usually record my sessions so this does not affect to me but this is good for Nvidia users, let's see do AMD make similar system later.

One nice feature is that it in "Shadow Mode" it continually records to a temp file (up to 20 mins) so if something interesting happens you can save it.

Anyone else have problems with the mic in shadowplay? It's coming across with a lot higher volume than anything else & distorting as soon as you do anything else than whisper.

When I did a test recording last night I found the opposite, that it was too quiet.

Only problem i have with this is that it starts lagging me a lot. And it's not
even FPS drop, it's just good old fashioned lag.

For me, at least as far as I can tell, Shadowplay seems to have no effect on performance. I seem to get similar framerates with and without it, and my games run smoothly.

The only problem I have is that in BF4, I sometimes have to turn it off and back on again for it to work. Especially if I experience a server or client crash.

Cool. More options are always good and 60fps is only useful if you plan on doing slow mo shots (you can only upload 30fps to YouTube at the moment).

I'm pretty happy with Shadowplay. Only thing that annoys me is because my monitor resolution is 1920x1200 my videos get resized to 1728x1080 (not too difficult to fix in editing software though, but still annoying). Hope, the output res option fixes this.
